Read about our Inaugural Session on April 23
These monthly sessions provide an opportunity to share a diverse collection of new and traditional folk music written in the three-quarter time signature. Musicians of all skill levels are welcome to bring their instruments and tunes, and join in. Visit Western Cider to enjoy cider and share music, and even dance! The atmosphere is convivial, supportive and fun!

This genre of music consists of hundreds of folk tunes, principally from western Europe and North America.
Some of us learn tunes by ear and others start with reading the notes but listening to each other as we play is the new skill that we are learning.
We appreciate that not everyone learns at the same pace. Sometimes we will play a tune through, discuss how we might play it better and then give it another go…and it can make a difference.
Chord notes and harmonies add flavor, so if you can’t manage all the notes, play what you can, and it will help you learn the tune, too!
Tune of the Month
The plan is to nominate a tune of the month so we know what to practice and can build on a shared experience. Jump to The Tunes page.

As in other types of sessions, we build a repertoire over time. If you prefer to read music, you can.
We will try to make scores available, and more importantly, attach links to a few YouTube videos so we have an idea of what it could sound like.

Ideally, we play by heart and with heart. If you come across other good recordings, please let us know. We will definitely play the tune of the month and quite a few others at each session.
