Benefits

What are the benefits of a membership in MFS?

  • Membership income provides a core base of funding for MFS to cover fixed or overhead costs for services that sustain the organization (advertising, bank fees, copying/printing, internet and website hosting, liability insurance, mailings/PO box rental, national memberships, PayPal and Square fees, supplies, equipment maintenance)

  • Membership income helps keep dances affordable since we’re not relying completely on dance income to cover these organizational expenses.

Is a reduced-rate available for memberships?

  • The Missoula Folklore Society offers a range of membership options including one for those with limited incomes.  Please see the Membership page for details.

What are the benefits to the individual for membership in the Missoula Folklore Society?

  • MFS is legally a member-owned organization and thus members participate directly in the organization, including running for the board, voting for board members, or heading committees.

  • The primary member benefit of MFS is access to great programming. It is very unlikely that events like MFS sponsors would happen without the structure of an organization behind it.

  • Individuals who support any non-profit with their memberships feel a kinship with other non-profit members. You can be proud of supporting dance programs that are fun, interesting and good exercise. These events build and foster social connection and a sense of community.

  • Buying a membership in MFS is a vote of confidence in the ongoing efforts of folks who work hard to promote and host our events – especially our volunteer board, other volunteers, dance coordinators, callers, bands, and sound crew.

  • MFS events are only possible because of membership support and a team of volunteers, many of whom are members, who donate over 2,200 hours a year performing essential tasks for MFS events

  • Starting in the 2026-2027 dance season, MFS is planning to continue to send an expanded newsletter to all members once-a-month that will have additional content and events. MFS will still send an MFS-only events email out each week to everyone subscribed to its mailing list.
