~ About our first Balfolk Dance ~
Fri, March 28 - 7:15 pm
112 N. Pattee St
Hello Dancers!
March 28th is the Missoula Folklore Society's first evening of Balfolk dance. We will use this opportunity to introduce a few basic dance forms found in Balfolk such as the hanter dro, an dro, bourree, gavotte, laride, and chapolloise.
Instruction will begin at 7:15 pm. While the focus will be on dancing, we will learn about a few characteristics unique to the Balfolk style of dance. To not overload the body or the brain, we'll try to wrap it up by 8:45 or 9 pm. The dances in April and May will review and build on what has been taught and continue to introduce other basic dance forms. Come join us! Questions? Send a message through the contact page.

Mike Sweet will be leading these evening dances. He has in-depth experience in teaching and performing International Folk Dance and is one of the founders of the Missoula Folklore Society.
Mike was a caller for many contra dances and played accordion in the Montana Country Dance Orchestra -- an informal gathering of musicians interested in playing contra dance music. Recently Mike has been playing button accordion for English Country dances with the Barely Necessary band.

Mike discovered Balfolk about two years ago and attended Balfolk workshops at the Lady of the Lake Music and Dance Camp in 2024. It is with this background and interest that Mike has explored the Balfolk genre of dance and is looking forward to sharing what he has learned with the Missoula community.
